Being recognized among the Best Places to Work in Indiana – a hard-working state filled with so many excellent companies – is an incredible honor. But being named the #1 place to work, in a year in which we moved from the Small Companies up to the Medium category, is downright indescribable. As we have grown from a folding table in a garage almost 20 years ago into 80+ people and around 20,000 square feet of office space today, the… [continue]
Christmas Happenings
Earlier this year we put together a Christmas Card Workshop for employees to bring their kids. We invited them to EG on a Saturday for cookie decorating (and eating of course), Christmas card making, and some fun family portraits. We even had some silly props to make it more exciting! When our monthly lunch rolls around in December, we like to celebrate the season with some good food (pulled pork/brisket bbq of course), and a little fun. Alongside the… [continue]
Solar Eclipse 2017
August 21, 2017. The day the sun went dark. Starting in Oregon and ending in South Carolina, the eclipse was a sight to see. A partial eclipse could be seen from most of the United States, but that wasn’t good enough for several E-gineers. Troy, Don, Tim, and I traveled down to Scottsville, KY to witness totality. Totality happens when the sun is completely covered by the moon, and it could only be seen within a 70-mile band across the… [continue]
Approximately Pi-Approximation Day
There’s Pi Day (3.14 or March 14th) and then there’s Pi Approximation Day (22/7 or 22 July), which is technically tomorrow. So, within a little over 4 months there are (at least) two wonderful occasions for baking, and eating, pie. We take these opportunities very seriously around here. The math behind date-based compulsory pie eating may be a little complicated, but we find that eating the pies themselves comes very easily. Besides the straightforward connection we make from computing and… [continue]
Backpacking Deam
The Deam Team ~ I’m sure that’s the first time that joke has ever been made. Or perhaps not… A few, proud group of E-gineers (and a stalwart friend of E-g) recently made our way out to the Charles C. Deam Wilderness, within the Hoosier National Forest for a backpacking adventure. We had been talking about putting a trip like that together for awhile. With a little persistence and planning, what started out as “talk” became a “walk!” … [continue]
Professional Confidence: The X Factor
I am a developer…a software engineer…a coder, whatever you want to call it. If you’re not, don’t fret…I think the basic ideology of this article can be applied to any profession. Confidence is key. A little confidence can transform a professional world of doubt/fear into a thoroughly enjoyable career. Once you reach the tipping point where confidence outweighs doubt, it transforms your experience. In conjunction, when confidence is lacking, frustration and fear linger. It’s hard to enjoy your profession if… [continue]
Furniture With A Purpose
We’re very excited about some new tables for our annex. And not just the tables – which are, without a doubt beautiful and functional – but also about the great conversations, meals, and work that will take place around them in the years to come. It was so good to get to talk with David, Andrew, Justin, and Margaret from Purposeful Design. We love their mission – what an amazing vision, working itself out rather well in the lives of… [continue]
Family, Sixteen Years and Annexes
It was a big day at E-g! We enjoyed a big lunch (G.T. South’s!) and ice cream with our families as we celebrated our latest office expansion (we unceremoniously call it “The Annex”), a new sign on the building – oh, and 16 years of quality software solutions! It’s right for us to make much of our families, and it’s right for us to mark milestones of blessing like this. We want to make sure to express value for the truly… [continue]
